Taherpur Notifies Area Authority was established in 11th June 1993. The Taherpur acquired this status through long struggle of the people. In 1951, refugees from East Pakistan swarmed and settled into this jungle-covered region in Nadia district. In 1971, for the first time, Panchayat elections were held in Taherpur. After long movement under Taherpur People, the government accepted the demand of people to promote the administrative status of Taherpur from Gram Panchayat to Notified Area. Administratively Krishnanagar bound Taherpur on the North, Birnagar in the south and Shantipur in the west. Taherpur covers an area of 2.01 sq km, which is divided into 13 wards with a total population of 20894 populations. (2011). Nearest rail station Taherpur rail station which is connect Sealdha – Krishnanagar via Ranaghat and ranaghat Krishnanagar By pass bus road connection. Economically Taherpur have not evolved during it almost 35 years of existence. Large sections of the population still live a meagre living owing to lack of any good economic activities in the area. 20 % of the Population is dependent on service sector and 35 % are involved in the business people. The remaining majority of people are wage labourer. Except few small-scale industries like pottery, wood, soap etc in some wards, Taherpur town is not a industrially dependent town.
